Once in a while a hot musical show comes along and really grips the attention and imagination of children, teenies, tweenies and adults. Forget Camp Rock and Glee mania, High School Musical fever is back and here to stay!
Four and a half years ago, Disney’s High School Musical was aired on Disney Channel UK and received its national television premiere on BBC1 at Christmas 2006. It was released on DVD in January 2007 and immediately rocketed to number one in the movie charts.
The stage show, based on the smash hit made-for-TV movie was then released for amateur performances. Fortunately, Tread the Boards Youth Music Theatre was one of the first companies in the UK to perform the show, presenting it first at the Gardyne Theatre in May 2007 and then at the Whitehall Theatre in January 2008 to sell-out houses.
Unfortunately, for amateur companies wishing to become part of this phenomenon, for over two years restrictions were placed on performing the show at venues other than school premises. This was due to a national tour of the professional production.
Happily, these restrictions have now been lifted and Tread the Boards is looking forward to presenting this popular show once more at the Whitehall Theatre from 19th to 23rd of April, nightly at 7.30 p.m. and Saturday matinee at 2.30 p.m.
High School Musical is about a group of high school students who are struggling with issues of popularity, first love, balancing education with extra curricular activities, and the value of family and friends. All the well-known songs from the film, including “The Start Of Something New”, “Get'cha Head In The Game”, “Breaking Free” and “We're All In This Together”, plus two additional numbers and a High School Musical Megamix are included in the stage adaptation.
Musically the show is extremely challenging, as is the choreography. But, as in Tread the Boards' previous productions, this talented company is more than up for the challenge. Come and join Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay and Ryan in this family friendly musical that is once again sure to be a favourite with audiences of all ages.
